A separate installation file is provided for the optional Pocket PC based applet. You will need to have first installed the desktop application, then run the Pocket PC installation with the Pocket PC connected. You should be running the latest version of Microsoft 's Active Sync. Now immediately after you run the installation on the desktop, the program will be installed to the Pocket PC. Before actually running the app (under Programs\MGCS on the Pocket PC) you will want to disconnect the Pocket PC and then reconnect. When you do this the records on the desktop will be synced with the Pocket PC and you can then launch the application on the Pocket PC. The OID fields in each table is initially a 0. This tells the Pocket PC applet the record has not been synced with the Pocket PC at all and it will copied to the PPC. Subsequently, the OID field will have a series of number that don't mean anything to your or I, but the applet uses this number to know whether the desktop or the pocket pc has the most recent copy of the record.
When you initially install the Pocket PC applet an .ini will be created in your windows directory with the name wceodbc.ini and this has the default location of the database as c:\inetpub\wwwroot\db. If you have moved the .mdb file to a different folder, or you have a driver letter mapped to a folder on your File/Web server, you would need to edit the wceodbc.ini file before synchronizing to be sure you are pointing to the actually .mdb file referenced in the DSN used by the desktop application.
In the example screen below, rather than c:\inetpub\wwwroot\db I show the DSN connected to a folder on the server mapped to my workstation as "K:". If this were the case with your installation you would need to edit the wceodbc.ini used by the pocket pc after installation but before your first "syncing" with the server.
If you are using the Pocket PC applet in addition to the windows desktop application, you will at first want to be sure and have frequent backup copies of the mgcsdata.mdb file - at least until you have used both applications for a while and are comfortable that the synchronization process is working as desired. Then you may revert to less frequent backups of the .mdb file.
