Importing Data

Version 8.2 introduced a new way to import data, and no longer limits you to .csv (comma separated values) files.

When you first click the Import button on a browse screen that has such a button, you will first need to select the data source. A drop down list box will let you choose between Microsoft Excel or MDB files, dbase format .dbf files and more to include any ODBC DSN.  After making a choice from the drop down list, click the button with the ... to either browse for the file in a folder or choose an ODBC DSN name.  In this example I am using a Microsoft Access format .mdb file and have browsed to the folder.

If your data source is in multiple tables, as mine is, you will first want to expand the tree and find the table that you will be importing from then either drag and drop fields from the left column to the right, or select a column in the left and click the arrow button to add it to the right column.  Repeat for all the fields you want to import.

The next screen is where you match columns in your file to the target file you are importing in to.  Click the arrow key with a + sign to let the program "guess" which fields match.  Drag and drop or click the arrow keys to continue matching fields.  NOTE:  when importing problem data your file may not have separate fields for a date and time, but might combing them into one field.  If this is the case, you can for example, drag the same column (call date) to both the call date and the call time fields.  The importer should determine which part of the import field to assign to the date field and which portion to assign to the time field.

You may optionally create a filter to limit the records being imported.

Again, you have the option to sort the data being imported.

This screen shows the data as created from your query.

After you click the finish button you will be returned to the browse screen to see (hopefully) all of your imported records.
