Backup and Restore

Top  Previous  Next

In Been There, Done That! 2006 I have included a new Backup utility under the Help menu option.  This will let you back up your data files - and later restore all files, or only selected files.  If you have not checked the box "use automatic backup" the Automatic Backup Setup button will not be enabled.  The default folder is a subdirectory (will be created for you) under the folder set in the START IN property of the shortcut used to launch the program.  You can change this, for example, if you wanted to back up files to a diskette or removable drive, USB stick and so on.

If you choose to use automatic backup you can have the backups set to run once per day or each time you start the program. You can also enable Smart backups.  This means if you had the program set to backup each time you exit the program, backup will not be performed if data was not changed.  The "show bulb icon" is not enabled so it won't matter if you check that box or not.

Should you need to restore from a backup, you can view the contents of each backup file (these are really just simple .zip format files) and if you only need to restore one file, right click on that file to unzip the file.

You can extract all files from a backup as well, or extract to a different folder.

I hope some of you may find this new feature helpful, and if you do please email me at dbandsons@aol.com to let me know.  Well, actually, I hope you don't have to use this feature since it may mean you had some problem.
